The government plans to transfer Rs 3,700 crore directly into the accounts of gram panchayats elected last year. It said that while around 10% of the funds transferred to gram panchayats in J&K is for administrative expenditure, nearly 90% will be utilised to benefit the local people. After reviewing, the Centre will release an additional Rs 1,500 crore each in two instalments.
